About

Known as our era’s greatest living theatre director, Peter Brook has created an immense body of work that spans 7+ decades.

South Asians may know him as the man who, along with Jean-Claude Carriere, transformed Hindu mythology into universalized art, accessible to any culture. The Mahabharata, The 9 hour-epic, created a watershed moment in theatrical history.

The only Theatre Director to have earned the highest honors in 3 countries, Brook is a Commander of the Order of the British Empire, Honoree in the American Theatre Hall of Fame and an Officier de l’Ordre de la Legion d’honneur in France.

He is the recipient of several Tonys, Emmys, the Prix Italia, the Praemium Imperiale and the Ibsen Award, to name a few.

He has written several books on theatre. His Empty Space is the quintessential textbook for all actors today.

Marie-Helene Estienne
