South Asian Theatre with Universal Appeal

Beyond the Box is EnActe’s homage to the Eastern tradition of theatre where the people are. It is theatre outside the physical confines of the amphitheater as well outside the traditional boundaries of form. In the past these were hosted in person and have now grown to accommodate the virtual medium.

Beyond the Box offerings include:

In Conversation - at the nexus of art and activism

These are meaningful discussions and discourse with eminent personalities in the world of theater and thought leaders on subjects that are pertinent to the times. This is where we give room to present not only stories but the unembellished truth of our time and our past so we can forge a more convergent future together.

Playful@EnActe – cozy staged reads with an intimate audience

Playful at EnActe brings theatre to our living rooms – virtually or when possible literally. These events not only allow us to present a broad and varied slate of curated theater experiences to our audiences, but also provide us with an opportunity to screen plays for future full productions and to support artists and playwrights in a low budget, high quality production. New Play Development is also a part of Playful@EnActe where we work with emerging playwrights to help them workshop new plays that are in line with our mission. This program allows us to work with emerging playwrights to review, and help develop new plays and create a platform for developing writing talent and bringing those South Asian Voices to the show.

Cine Plays – Professional Theatre for a virtual audience

This is a program born out of the need to create quality theatre for an audience that is not able to come to the Box. With a grant from SCVF and new collaborations with theater personalities across the world we are equipping ourselves to produce and present virtual theatre beyond “just zoom”.
